Protocol

Marketing message: We are re-positioning Protocol’s services in the coming months to emphasize to clients that we are creating a time and cost-efficient back office for them and will align our fee structure accordingly.

Statement analyses: By going through systematically the statements we have been collecting, we are discovering some serious findings for our clients (mainly due to discovering discrepancy with the agreement or mathematical errors, etc.). We are looking into growing the volume of Protocol’s capability to provide more of this service by putting hands together with Hanneke van der Meer, who has great experience in auditing films.

New deal:

We have signed up with Revolution Studios for the handling of the GK Films catalogue titles that they acquired earlier. It includes the Edge of Darkness, Hugo, Rum Diary, The Tourist and Young Victoria. We are very excited about these titles and the expansion of our relationship with Revolution Studios.

Client news:

  • Focus - We are creating a back office for the 150+Focus Features International titles we have been handling since 2014. This means that in addition to usual services, Protocol International will be the main contact on behalf of FFI towards all the distributors and the agreement for this is being wrapped up.

  • EDKO - An audit is to be started for one of EDKO’s distributors for “Cold War”, as a part of a cooperation between Protocol, Peter Kostense and Hanneke van der Meer. First of its kind!

Terminations:

  • Rhinebeck: Protocol’s contract with Rhinebeck Productions regarding the title Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens has been terminated. Given that Rhinebeck Productions and the “new” Fortissimo are now in discussion for reselling of the title, Protocol suggested that Fortissimo assumes Protocol’s tasks.

  • Baahubali: The Protocol-Arka Media service agreement for the Indian film hit, Baahubali - The Beginning, came to completion. During the 1 year service period, Protocol assisted the producers with setting up the proper line of reporting with the distributors, including the timely collection and analysis of the territorial royalty statements.

Department news

AVPR

AVPR had a department get-to-gether to recap departmental procedures and discuss operational matters to better their services, see picture.

CAM

Attila visited the Leiden office in August and Anett in September. The purpose of their visits was to get to know the fellow colleagues of the CAM department better. During both visits, the team went to the Hudson Bar & Kitchen for lunch where they had some really good hamburgers and beers, see pictures.

HR

Protocol

Marianna Kotmanoczki left per September 30, 2017.

Licensing

Marcom

A recap from Marcom:

  • Please note some changes have been made to the website and logo, design/colour wise. The email signatures have not been changed yet as we need to update them with the new office address. The new logo artwork is saved in the Finfo section/Marcom folder.

  • Marian will start the legal marketing website project this month ( making sure it's clear on the web that protocol and licensing have a new ownership structure and that they feature in digital and beyond section).

  • The external comms project regarding the change of address will start soon and updated will feature on FRED regarding the steps.

  • The issue of being kicked out of FRED when clicking on a link in a post on FRED Said is fixed. If you encounter any problems on FRED (link/url not working, not being redirected, attachment not opening etc.) please let Mia know.

OS NL

Office Support is focusing on the Moving. The updates and all other communication will go via FRED.

TIFF

A colder than usual TIFF saw fewer than usual big films being offered to the marketplace. Robbert, Maarten and David discussed the current developments with a substantial number of players, to see what we should be concentrating on in the next few years, as it is clear that the influence of Netflix, Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Hulu will continue to change the media landscape. We had excellent and productive meetings with the people that we wanted to see. - Maarten

A new office location!

A new office lease for a space at the Schipholweg 55-89 (Schutterspoort building) in Leiden has been signed. The office is approximately 400 meters from the Leiden Central Station and it is actually in the same office building where Fintage started in Leiden more than 17 years ago!
